Les accidents de la voie publique occupent la 9ème cause de mortalité, et la première cause de décès chez les jeunes de moins de 25 ans au Cameroun (IHME, 2019). Les accidents de la voie publique impliquent des coûts très élevés en termes de dommages matériels, de souffrance pour la personne blessée, de perte de revenus pour les membres de la famille et même la mort ; ils font perdre en moyenne à l’économie camerounaise près de 100 milliards de francs CFA chaque année, soit l’équivalent d’environ 1% du produit intérieur brut (PIB) du pays.

Drugs Are Taking Our Youths Away : Ensuring Inclusion of Substance Use Disorder Management in the Universal Health Coverage in Cameroon

Substance use and substance use disorder are a public health problem in Cameroon, posing a significant threat to adolescents’ health and hindering the attainment of their full potential in future.

The prevalence of substance use and substance use disorder is high among young people in Cameroon. In 2023, reports from addiction treatment centers revealed that 17.2% of addiction cases were adolescents aged under 19, while 34% were young adults aged between 20 and 24. Within secondary schools, 1 out 4 students consume drugs; meanwhile 6 out of 10 street children have consumed drugs.

Protecting Our Newborns : Strategies to combat stillbirths and neonatal deaths in Cameroon

In Cameroon, there were 14 stillbirths and 24 neonatal deaths per thousand births in 2023 (1). This is still far from the recommended target of 12 per thousand births (2).

• 80% of all newborn deaths result from three preventable and treatable conditions: complications due to prematurity, intrapartum-related deaths (including birth asphyxia) and neonatal infections (2).

The impact of investments in health can be measured in many ways, and one of the most important measures is how many lives are saved. Health programs supported by the Global Fund partnership have saved 27 million lives as of the end of 2017.

Credit for this achievement is shared by policymakers and activists, scientists and community health workers, donors, drug makers and many more partners.
Overall, the number of deaths caused by AIDS, TB and malaria each year has been reduced by onethird since 2002 in countries where the Global Fund invests.
